Buell® 1125-cubic-centimeter Helicon™ Engine
Development of the Helicon™ engine was driven solely by our desire to achieve the perfect power delivery, regardless of displacement. 1125-cubic-centimeter presented itself as the solution to achieving this. Working with BRP Powertrain GmbH & Co. KG, a premier manufacturer of high-performance engines, the result is a lightweight, fast-revving, big-bore, short-stroke engine with broad and seamless power, hitting 146 horsepower just before the 10,500 revolutions per minute redline. But what makes this engine so addictive is the torque curve. It's virtually flat, topping out at a stunning 82 foot-pounds. And with only 8 foot-pounds of variation along the entire powerband, you'll find that you're almost always in the right gear.
Helicon™ - Innovative Valve Train Design
Featuring dual overhead cams, a self-adjusting hydraulic chain drive and magnesium valve covers, the valve train design is both lightweight and very compact. Actuated by F-1 racing-inspired finger followers, the valves are quick to open for improved throttle response and power delivery. This technology reduces friction and permits a quicker valve opening due to reduced weight. Shim replacement is quick and easy due to the unique follower retention system.
RAM Air System
Using computational fluid dynamics to optimize the air flow, the RAM air system pressurizes the air box for a performance gain at speeds over 80 miles per hour.

With 5.3 gallons of fuel contained in the frame as near to the motorcycle's center of gravity as possible, the rider is able to spend more time on the road enjoying the resulting light, nimble handling and less time at the fuel pump.
Tail Section
The rear section is clean and sleek with a passenger seat hidden under an easily removable cowling.
Mass Centralization
The 72-degree V-angle allows a more compact engine than 90-degree alternatives, allowing the engine mass to be located forward in the chassis. The front wheel carries 54 percent of the vehicle weight for handling and stability, while the center of gravity remains low.
Massive aluminum frame doubles as a 5.3-gallon fuel reservoir, to carry fuel closer to the bike's center of gravity.
Radiators are mounted longitudinally between the front wheel and the frame, placing their weight lower and closer to the center of gravity than a more traditional front-mounted radiator.
The muffler and exhaust catalyst are located below the engine, rather than high and behind the rider.
Low Unsprung Weight
The Buell Zero Torsional Load (ZTL-2™) front brake utilizes an 8-piston caliper and single 375 millimeter rotor mounted directly to the rim, producing outstanding stopping power. The rim-mounted design eliminates the need for load-bearing spokes or even a second disc, resulting in a front-end assembly that is significantly lighter than competitive designs. The caliper casting was optimized for clamping stiffness, yielding a more progressive and connected braking feel to the rider.
The rear brake caliper is mounted directly to the swingarm, saving the weight of a bracket.
A new-generation Goodyear® Hibrex® final drive belt with Flexten® Plus technology weighs just 1.06 pounds, saving 4 to 5 pounds.

Compensated Front Sprocket
By placing the compensation function in the transmission output sprocket rather than the wheel sprocket, unsprung weight is reduced, helping to improve handling.
Advanced Cooling System
Before it saw any air, Buell's Advanced Cooling System was subjected to a healthy dose of radical ingenuity. Instead of relying on air churned up by the front wheel, Buell engineers routed virgin air through a split radiator, along the specially channeled frame, and cleanly out the back of the bike. And should you lowside during a track day, the performance scoops are designed to act like frame-sliders, helping to prevent damage to parts of the bike that are a lot more painful to replace.
