An amazing motorcycle event will occur this August which will become legendary in the annuals of motorcycling. In 2010, approximately 800 riders rode from Key West, Florida to Homer, Alaska in the initial Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge. It was one of the most severe tests of man and machine ever held in the United States. 211 riders reached Homer with the winner arriving in 8 ˝ days. The route covered approximately 8,500 miles of surface roads across America. Now, in 2011, the Hoka Hey Challenge is upping the ante. The 2011 challenge will start in Phoenix, Arizona on August 5th and wind through all 48 states, on mostly surface roads, to Nova Scotia, Canada. A total distance of over 10,000 miles. Perhaps significantly over! The route will cover some of the most iconic locations and motorcycle roads throughout the United States and Canada. For 2011, the Harley-Davidson Motor Company is a title sponsor for the event. One of the checkpoints will be in Milwaukee at the Harley-Davidson Museum. Harley is dedicated to making this event world class and continuing Harley’s dominant long distance endurance riding heritage. There will be significant rewards for riding the course faithfully (GPS tracking required) and arriving at the head of the pack. There are, however, many physic rewards for being a part of this epic event and riding along with a group of like minded enthusiasts throughout all or a portion of the course. Only the most dedicated motorcyclists should apply. To be recognized as a participant, one must simply register, ride the portion of the route they desire and sleep wherever they wish.
